UPPLIVA

SCANDINAVIAN SPA, OTTAWA 2021 

Uppliva is a modern take on the age-old sauna tradition of warming up, cooling off and resting. This project takes the spa user through a journey to a state of well-being through contrast of all the sensory levels. Hot to cold, small to large, rough to soft. The user experience is all the more pleasurable in an ensemble that is architecturally balanced, and all elements are harmoniously combined. The architecture of the building showcases high ceilings throughout keeping the overall feeling airy and light with floor to ceiling windows bringing the suns warmth into the space. Scandinavian inspired materials were selected throughout, such as lighter wood tones, contrasting concrete wall finishes, soft pebble pathways for wayfinding as well as environmentally friendly upholstery and local where possible.
